QUOSA Information Manager

This QUOSA Information Manager guide is mainly for PC users. Mac users may need to consult the QUOSA User Guide for Mac for more information.

Searching In Results

To search within your results, click the  icon on the QUOSA toolbar. (Note: in Advanced View, the icon displays as image only, i.e. without the "Search in Results" description.)

There are two options for searching within results: Quick Search (see below) and Advanced Search (see right column).

You can switch between the two options using the button in the lower left corner of the dialog box.

  • When Quick Search is open, use the button to switch to Advanced Search.
  • When Advanced Search is open, use the button to switch to Quick Search.

Quick Search

Quick Search will search the contents of one folder (from My Searches or My Folders) at a time. Only the current set displayed in the results pane will be searched.

You can search:

  • All Fields (by checking "Search all Fields" below the Full Text box);
  • Within the Full Text of results;
  • Specifically in Title, Author, or Journal fields;
  • Title and Abstract (by checking the "Search also in Abstract" box);
  • Any combination of fields by entering terms in multiple fields (concepts will be combined as AND searches).

Results matching your query will be displayed in a new search folder (below the folder you searched) in the Organizer Pane, with the results listed in the Results Pane.

For additional information, see the QUOSA help topic: Searching with the 'Quick Search-In-Results' Dialog

Advanced Search

If you only want to search full text, Title, Author or Journal fields in the current set of articles, then use the Quick Search. However if you need to search multiple folders or fields other than the three mentioned above (for example, your annotations), use the Advanced Search

Choose one of these options from the Scope drop-down:

  • Current Set: current folder or search displayed in the results pane.
  • All Folders: all folders in your My Folders and the Inbox.
  • All Searches: all search folders in My Searches and My Alerts.
  • All Folders & Searches: everything in My Folders, Inbox, My Searches, My Alerts.

You can search:

  • Within the Full Text of results;
  • Specifically in the Title, Author or your choice of dozens of other fields displayed in the "Other Fields" drop-downs.
  • Any combination of fields by entering terms in multiple fields (you can add more fields using the plus (+) sign to the right of the fields).
  • Searches can be combined using the boolean operators AND, OR and NOT.

If you search across all your QUOSA IM folders and/or searches, results matching your query will be displayed in a new search folder in the Organizer Pane.

If you search within one particular folder ("Current Set"), the new search folder containing the matching results will appear below the folder you searched in.

For additional information, see the QUOSA help topic: Searching with the Advanced Search In Results Dialog.
