Power, Privilege, and Positionality

An orientation created by the MGH Institute JEDI Office that takes place at the beginning of every semester at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, open to all faculty, students, and staff.

An Introduction to the Power, Privilege, and Positionality Orientation Program

Through the Power, Privilege, and Positionality (PPP) Orientation, we are building foundational knowledge (common languages: justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, power, privilege, positionality, racism, oppression, intersectionality) for all incoming IHP students and the broader IHP community.

Every semester, PPP includes a speaker panel that takes a deeper diver into a dimension of JEDI as it relates to health. The goals of this program are to have participants

  • learn about racial and intersectional power structures in society
  • reflect on how these related to their lives and health professions
  • start thinking about how to apply this knowledge
  • start thinking about their own growth

This guide captures recordings from those panels, recommended readings and videos, and reflective prompts.
