CEC 101: What's the IHP's Role in Health Equity?

An Introduction to the Community Excellence Course (CEC): What's the IHP's Role in Health Equity?

Through the CEC course, we are building foundational knowledge for all incoming IHP students and the broader IHP community.

Every semester, CEC 101 includes readings, discussion, and a speaker panel that take a deeper diver into a dimension of health equity as it relates to another societal issue. The goals of this program is to advance capacity in the Health Equity and Community Excellence Course Competencies for all participants.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand relevant power structures in society

  • Reflected on how these relate to your own life, health professions and our community

  • Engaged in virtual discussion with other members of the IHP community as a first experience of the IHP’s interprofessional curriculum

  • Explored applications of this knowledge

  • Identified your own growth pathways beyond this course

This guide captures recordings from those panels, recommended readings and videos, and reflective prompts.

Health Equity and Community Excellence Core Competencies

The purpose of the Health Equity and Community Excellence (HECE) Core Competencies are to hold ourselves accountable to the MGH Institute's mission and commitment to health equity and community excellence.

The HECE Core Competencies provide a framework for groups and individuals to outline skills related to HECE principles that are pertinent to setting within healthcare and higher education.
