What is Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)?

Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is a decision-making approach that combines three essential elements:

  • Best available research evidence – Utilizing current, high-quality scientific studies and data.
  • Clinical expertise – Applying the skills, knowledge, and experience of healthcare professionals.
  • Patient values and preferences – Taking into account the patient’s individual needs, cultural background, and choices.

These elements, when combined, help healthcare providers deliver effective, safe, and appropriate care.

EBP across the fields

Bellack Library developed some guides to help you find resources for applying EBP principles to your education and clinical decisions across various fields.

Evaluating Research Articles

As part of Evidence-Based Practice, you need to critically evaluate the research articles and evidence available to you.

You can find more information in the guide created by the Bellack Library. Feel free to contact us through Ask a Librarian if you have any questions.
