Finding Evidence for CSD Topics

Choosing Databases

Which databases you choose to search will largely depend on two factors:

  1. Your topic - because most academic databases are discipline specific, you'll want to select those databases that include literature on your topic.
  2. How comprehensive you want to be - if you are only looking for a few articles, you might only search one database, but if you need to be comprehensive in the literature you include, then you'll probably search several databases.

Here are some short videos to help you become familiar with the strengths, weakness, and topical coverage of a few of our most popular databases.

Databases

The following databases and search engines are all excellent tools with which to look for research articles. A video tutorial for using these tools to find CSD research is above.

You can also find quick video descriptions of each database on our Expert Keyword Searching guide.

Database Tutorials

If you are unfamiliar with the databases available through the library, we recommend watching video tutorials to see the basics of how they work. The links below will take you to tutorials for the three major databases. That aid, librarians are also available to help you make sense of these tools. Just ask us!
