Evidence Based Practice in OT

Evidence based practice (EBP) is "...applying the best available research results (evidence) when making decisions about health care. Health care professionals who perform evidence based practice use research evidence along with clinical expertise and patient preferences." - AHRQ

On this page you will find resources to help you apply EBP principles to your education and clinical decisions. Such resources include systematic reviews, critically appraised topics and articles, and practice guidelines.

Your membership to the American Occupational Therapy Association provides you with even more EBP resources.

Critically Appraised Topics in OT

Critically appraised topics (CATs) are slightly less rigorous than systematic reviews. CATs are also used for evidence-based practice. Use the resources below to find CATs. Note that many universities have mini CATbanks with reviews written by their students.

The Center for Evidence Based Medicine also provides templates for creating your own CATs
