Closely examining the reference list of a relevant article is a time honored method for finding other related articles, and a necessary one for any comprehensive literature search.

Cited Reference Searching

Cited reference searching lets you find out whether an article has been cited by other articles.  

Not all databases let you do this specialized search, and the process varies slightly by database.  Here are two tutorials showing you how to do this type of search in CINAHL and Ovid Medline.
