Predictors and patterns of suicidal ideation disclosures among American adultsResults indicated that those who identified as Black or Hispanic were less likely to disclose their suicidal thoughts relative to their White counterparts. This finding was not surprising, as minoritized populations face extensive barriers to mental health treatment due to longstanding structural racism. Such experiences may reduce individuals' opportunities to disclose their suicidal thoughts to mental health providers. Additionally, prior research has found that both Hispanic and Black Americans report greater mental health stigma relative to White Americans (DeFreitas et al., 2018; Uebelacker et al., 2012; Ward et al., 2013).
